At the end of 2003 I got my first digital recording machine and delved into the wonderful world of home recording. One of the first things I did was record this album. It was Christmas Eve, I was 21, jobless and living at my Father's house. I didn't have any money for presents so an idea came to me to record my families favourite cover songs. I quickly contacted them and gathered a list of songs. For the next 12 hours, from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. Christmas morning, I recorded 12 songs. One after another, all in a row. Armed with my trusty old Yamaha acoustic and 2 microphones (a SM57 and a SM58), I layered vocal harmonies, double tracked acoustic guitars, laid down solos late into the night much to my Father's chagrin. I finished around 7 a.m. and for the last hour mixed the songs down to stereo tracks then hopped in my car and drove over to my Mother's house, excited to share what I had made for everyone. This became a tradition I carried on for a number of years. Recruiting family members to play and sing on songs at times. I had a smarter approach in later years when making these albums, and would start recording the songs earlier, not cramming it all into one 12 hour sitting. I present to you the first installment in my Xmas album series, aptly titled "12 Hours". Enjoy!
